$1M School Funding Line in Budget Triggers Betrayal Allegations and Ruling Party Divide in Mongolia
The budget line at the centre of Mongolia’s fiercest political fight is now being dismissed as a mere draft. Two female MPs found MNT3.5 billion ($1m) for Ikh Zasag, a private school connected to the prime minister’s family, in a working spreadsheet. That kind of scrutiny is precisely what the expanded parliament was built for.
Nyam-Osoryn Uchral says there is no such line because there is no stamp, no seal, nothing on the project list. He calls it slander and has asked the Anti-Corruption Agency to investigate.
Education minister Luvsantserengiin Enkh-Amgalan says the file was a survey for the MNT50bn ($14m) School Near Home program, a worksheet that becomes a plan once signed, and the PM-linked school has since refused to take part. He called the report groundless and branded one of them a traitor.
