Why No-Confidence Threats Against Mongolia's Prime Minister Never Arrive

The Democratic Party says it is ready to table a no-confidence motion against the Mongolia prime minister. It has been saying versions of this since its expulsion from the governing coalition last year. It has never done it.

The record across three governments is telling. Luvsannamsrain Oyun-Erdene lost power in June 2025 on a confidence vote he forced himself, nearly two weeks after the MPP conference expelled the DP from the coalition, a step that effectively challenged his power from within.
The single dismissal motion actually filed in this period targeted Gombojavyn Zandanshatar in October 2025, and it came from Dashzegviin Amarbayasgalan’s MPP loyalists rather than the opposition. Parliament passed it, the president vetoed it over voting irregularities, and the Constitutional Court annulled it. Against Prime Minister Nyam-Osoryn Uchral the Democrats claimed 41 signatures in August and produced no paper.
