PM Uchral Has the Numbers. The Opposition Has the Narrative.

In June 2026, the Democratic Party's faction laid out why it believes the cabinet should fall. Party leader Odongiin Tsogtgerel said DP members had sent the Prime Minister a proposal to hold Defense Minister Dambyn Batlut accountable, and that since Uchral has not responded, the faction is now seeking the Prime Minister's own dismissal. The conscript death in Bayankhongor triggered this as a 19-year-old soldier died after a fight with fellow servicemen.

The DP is no longer asking for one minister's head. It is arguing the government as a whole has lost the right to govern, citing unresolved corruption cases and what MP Sukhbaataryn Erdenebold called a political class fighting over chairs while the price of meat has roughly doubled in five years, with mutton up over 100% in a decade and other food prices up 50 to 70%.
