Mongolia’s 2027 presidential race is beginning to look less like a contest between established frontrunners than a struggle over who will shape the next phase of the country’s two dominant parties.
The early field for Mongolia's presidential election landscape is already shifting.
Gombojavyn Zandanshatar of the ruling MPP and Norovyn Altankhuyag of the opposition DP have been among the strongest potential candidates discussed for months.
Both now appear to be losing ground. Reports suggest the two are being pushed out of their parties’ presidential calculations, although neither has been ruled out and the official nomination process has yet to begin.
