Nyam-Osoryn Uchral has been elected chairman of the Mongolian People’s Party (MPP) after a bruising power struggle forced Prime Minister Gombojavyn Zandanshatar and former Speaker Dashzegviin Amarbayasgalan to withdraw from the race.

Their exits cleared the way for a managed succession that disguises deep factional wounds and subtly rearranges Mongolia’s political map.

More than 2,200 delegates endorsed First Deputy PM Uchral at the MPP congress on November 15.
