Copper convoys crossing at Gashuunsukhait, Mongolia's busiest southern border port into China, fell from the usual 13 a day to about four from mid-October. Oyu Tolgoi said on November 4 the export restriction has been resolved, with 13 convoys crossing that day, the full rate before the slowdown.

Official channels remain silent on whether coal shipments through the same port have recovered. The border port was never closed. Trucks still crossed at a slower pace, carrying loads out weeks behind schedule.

The slowdown dates back to August, when Chinese authorities started installing an in-vehicle facial recognition system for drivers crossing at Ganqimaodu, the Chinese port opposite Gashuunsukhait.
