Mongolia’s Opposition Democrats Boycott Parliament to Force Speaker’s Ouster

As the parliament reconvened for the spring session on March 16, 2026, the opposition Democratic Party (DP) boycotted it demanding resignation of Speaker Nyam-Osoryn Uchral.

They argue a ruling party leader should not also preside over the legislature.
The tactic is not new. In October 2025, the DP mounted a similar campaign against then-Speaker Amarbayasgalan of the MPP, who was at the time contesting the party chairmanship. He stepped down after the boycott gained traction allowing the no-confidence motion to proceed against Prime Minister Zandanshatar.
