President Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh recently met Xi Jinping and Vladimir Putin on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit in Bishkek. Prime Minister Nyam-Osoryn Uchral talked with Putin at the Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok.
No trilateral heads-of-state meeting took place this year, unlike the 2025 Beijing summit that had promoted the China-Mongolia-Russia Economic Corridor.

For years Ulaanbaatar presented its position between Russia and China as an economic asset. Pipelines, railways and economic corridors were expected to convert geography into steady transit income.
