Prime Minister Nyam-Osoryn Uchral’s September 27 to 30 official visit to Tokyo produced one binding document, a 158.3 billion yen ($1bn) Japanese loan to expand Chinggis Khaan International Airport.

The loan runs 40 years with a 10-year grace period at 1.1 percent fixed interest under the Japan International Cooperation Agency’s Special Terms for Economic Partnership (STEP), and the terms are public. The money lifts annual passenger capacity from 1.6 million to 5.2 million. Traffic hit 2.4 million in 2025, past its original capacity. Japan financed that one too, and it opened in 2021.
